I am Nikki Hinske
Nikki is a co-founder of Hinske & Clarey, having previously been an owner of Oakley and Hinske LLC, a predecessor firm since 2004. She began her career in public accounting at a large certified public accounting and consulting firm in downtown Charleston where she focused on taxation. She then moved to a boutique CPA firm, working closely with senior partner Victoria Oakley, growing her focus in start-up accounting, foreign taxation and other business consulting. Nikki and Victoria were partners until Victoria’s retirement in 2005, at which time, Nikki and Katie Clarey created Hinske & Clarey LLC.
Since Nikki began managing the business development of the firm, it has grown from a two-person to a six-person business. She credits the growth primarily to client referrals. By focusing on client relationships, the firm has managed to grow quickly while still maintaining high quality service. Nikki takes pride in her firm’s ability to provide valuable advice and resources for small to mid-size businesses within a variety of industries.
From education at start-up, consulting in growing stages and finally, retirement and selling of a business, Nikki looks well beyond simple tax minimization and preparation to create value for her clients. She specializes in taxation and entrepreneurial consulting. She has extensive experience assisting sophisticated investors with complex investments such as hedge funds and foreign investments and emphasizes tax planning for individuals.
Nikki earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the College of Charleston and became a licensed Certified Public Accountant, and a member of the SC Association of Certified Public Accountants and the Coastal Chapter of the SC Association of Certified Public Accountants. She later obtained a Master’s degree in Accountancy from The University of Charleston to further her knowledge in the areas of tax and accounting.
A frequent presenter and published author, Nikki has addressed a variety of topics including adoption credits, retirement planning, the benefits of 529 plans, 501(c)(3) creations, and tax-free investment vehicles. She takes great pride in being Co-Founder and Treasurer of Shotgun Fairies, Inc., a team-inspired not-for-profit raising awareness and resources in the fight against breast cancer. Nikki’s vision and efforts helped this organization come to life and led the way to breaking many Susan G. Komen Lowcountry fundraising records in 2014 and 2015. She also serves on the Board of Directors of The Woodward Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation (WCCF) and the Summerville High School class of 1994 Reunion Committee.
Nikki enjoys traveling, music, Pilates, baking and spending time with her family and friends. She and her husband Joe Hinske reside on Daniel Island with their two boys, Ryan and Jack, and their Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Zoe.
